Piece created for Challenge 2021 Jewelry and Nature
Materials sterling silver, human hair
This collection explores the boundaries between disgust and beauty by dealing with human hair. Where does hair find its place in jewelry as an aesthetically valuable material that one likes to wear and to touch? When and why does it become a disgusting and eerie element?
Disgust and all related sensations are feelings we can hardly control, they are deeply personal and individual experiences. These experiences throw us back onto ourselves, show us our loneliness and uniqueness in the world and consequently activate a memento mori.
