In her most recent work Miriam Arentz experiments with the engraving technique “Guilloche” and uses it to create colourful, enamelled pieces in the form of beetles. The body of the beetle, if unconnected to its legs, often has the form of a shield, and like the shield it is the protective tool of the animal. This inspired her to use the shape of the beetle's body and turn it into a pendant or an amulet, which originally means “an object that protects a person from trouble”.
