Only the look over the time of an ideal impartial observer may offer the comprehensive overview of that specific event we are referring to. At that specific moment, in that specific place. Especially when this place is a character in itself, a mystical, full of passion, enigmatic, alive and unforgettable one.
It’s the reason why Cleopatra fell in love with Lawrence Durrell’s tetralogy - “The Alexandria Quartet”. It’s not only an exercise of empathy (by the author, the characters and also the reader), but also a reminder to always judge things from all angles.
