Red Army Go Home brooch
Piece included in the exhibition Tincal lab Challenge 2024 Jewelry and Freedom (maximum price 150€)
Materials copper, birch bark, spray paint, epoxy
Size 25x40x7mm
This brooch, crafted from birch bark and surrounded by a red bezel setting, is inspired by the letters written on birch bark by Lithuanian political prisoners and deportees (1940–1965), now recognized as UNESCO World Heritage. The inscription on the reverse, “Red Army go home”, reflects both the departure of the last Soviet troops from Lithuania 31 years ago and the present-day invasion of Ukraine. The piece symbolizes defiance against oppression, bridging historical and contemporary struggles for freedom.
