“When my mind is quiet, I am fully involved. In the absence of thoughts, my awareness is heightened and I see things seem clearer. It is in that mind set, where the sense of belonging in my own skin, feels like freedom.”
With the artworks, Taibe explores the idea of finding a sense of freedom in ourselves, in our own skin; as a space away from a world that may feel oppressive.
Both brooches are made of fragments of seaweed, treated for wearability, and handcrafted in different ways to capture a sense of skin and strength.
