INÊS SOBREIRA

Inês Sobreira was born in 1962 in Porto.

She graduates in civil engineering in 1985 and eight years later starts her apprenticeship in arts/jewelry at ESAD. At the end of her degree, in 1999, she is invited to teach project/jewelry, which she does until 2006. In 2017 she opens the AUTORIA jewelry gallery/workshop, that she keeps until 2020.

When creating jewelry, Inês Sobreira establishes a plastic dialogue in which she resumes a past dedicated to the practice of engineering and a visual thought that comes from the creation of jewelry. She reveals conceptual rigor combined with poetic expression and inventive subtlety. Through a double symbolic act she recovers memories, revives artisanal materials and techniques, transporting them to the field of design and, recalling the memory of previous recreations, she weaves her jewels.
