"At the end of my small Soi in Bangkok, Friday nights bring a gathering of motorbike delivery riders to the 7Eleven. They drink beers on the steps, listening to music, laughing and sharing stories. One man sells dried squid from the back of his bike, lit up with fairy lights. I walk past this small weekly celebration as an outsider, yet still feel its deeply human sense of warmth and connection. I experience myself as both part of this place, and a stranger to it. In the morning I return to collect the bottle tops and make jewellery from them.”
Virginia Sprague's Friday Nights series seeks to explore those small moments of connection and familiarity across cultures. The works are intentionally messy. They seek beauty, joy and coherence within imperfection and attempt to speak to the layered, chaotic poetry of Bangkok streets.
