Sophie began “Jewelry and Celebration” with the idea of creating “pockets of light and colour”, based on bright flower drawings produced in the summer, evocative of joy and celebration with dizzingly bright flowers, bees and sunlight, and of playing outside as a child. Making repoussé versions from selections of her drawings, which she originally intended to paint brightly, she realised that these could be wearable jelly molds, to create an encapsulation of the bright joy of summer, but also of family celebrations of her childhood, which always involved jelly and trifle. Within the jelly are some of the original flower petals, with their beautiful overlaid colours: jewel-like in the sun.
