Skyfire collection was born to celebrate life through one of the universal symbols of festivity: fireworks. Yet as the work developed, it evolved into a reflection on the fragile and violent times we are living in. What looked like pyrotechnic explosions of celebration now feels indistinguishable from scenes of devastation. It's hard to celebrate when thousands of children are dying in war. Are these skies brightened by fireworks, or by bombs? The two brooches are made using drypoint on plexiglass, set into oxidised copper structures. Once set in metal, the plates can no longer be hand-printed, leaving only two singular, unrepeatable originals.
