The concept of “freedom” has been explored in this piece through colour, texture and negative space. Selected areas are isolated both “in” and “out” of the defined space to question where do we find our freedom? The piece explore hues of red; the colour that symbolises the April Revolution, whilst the reverse of the piece offers a contrasting colour palette, as a nod not only to Hall’s practice where the reverse of each work has a different character to the front, but also to the idea that freedom and change can often only be seen if we switch our view.
